Poland becomes a leader in the consumption of plastic materials in the region

2009-06-01 16:40:48

The demand for plastics in Poland is the highest in all Central European countries, representing 36% of the demand for this part of Europe.

The sectors that have the biggest influence on increment of use of plastics are construction (30%) and packaging (29%).

Despite the slowdown in the growth of the Polish economy, the supply of plastics in Poland does not cover the demand. It is need to import large quantities of plastic materials. The trade balance was negative for the plastic to Poland - the import in 2008 was 3 billion euros higher than the export. The same trend is observed in other countries of Central Europe.

There is still great potential in the field of recycling of plastics. The consumption of plastics in Poland is 60 kg per capita, much lower than in other EU countries. However, only 14% of this material is reciclated.
