The growth of the Polish economy has slowed, but the data published after the first quarter of 2009 are very positive, compared with other European countries.
It results that the Polish economy is in much better position than other European economies. Only Cyprus has noticed the growth in GDP higher than in Poland (1.4%).
In Poland, according to Eurostat, the growth of GDP in the first quarter was 0.8%.
The countries with the worst situation are Latvia (-18.6%), Estonia (-15.6%), Lithuania (-12.6%), Germany (-6.7%), Hungary (-6.4% ) and Slovakia (-5.4%). Polish GDP compared with the last quarter of 2008 grew by 0.4%.
The unemployment rate in Poland oscillates about 10.2% (according to Eurostat: 7.8%).
European Union GDP has declined by 2.4%. The unemployment rate in the EU has reached 9.2%.
